BIO  /  JAMES  /  DAVID  /  OUR STUDIO  /  OUR WORK WITH EVA ZEISEL
New York City design studio KleinReid stands at the forefront of porcelain design. The firm's founders James Klein and David Reid began collaborating in 1993, creating refined vases, lighting and serveware – and more recently soft goods, jewelry and limited edition prints. Their influential atelier is renown for its elegant forms, dense, translucent porcelain, artisanal glazes, and fine “from scratch” craftsmanship.

KleinReid's trend-setting yet refined style has attracted a following and its wares are sought by museums, collectors, celebrities and politicos (Michelle Obama - woohoo!) alike. The studio’s wares have been extensively shown in gallery and museum exhibitions – including several solo shows. They also retail in design stores and stylish boutiques worldwide, and grace television and movie sets. As taste-makers, James and David have designed collections for prestigious firms including Herman Miller and Dansk and have been profiled in national and international shelter, fashion and design periodicals, and on television.

In 1999 the duo approached one of its heroes, design legend Eva Zeisel, with a proposal to collaborate. Their work together over the next decade spawned a treasured friendship and the “Eva” line, a collection of sixteen sensual designs produced exclusively by KleinReid.

2009 saw the introduction of the Applied line, their first bridge line of well-priced, sculptural objet and lidded vessels produced in pristine matte porcelain.

James and David herald more than 15 years of collaboration; a shared personal vision to create objects they love and have fun doing it. Each new collection elegantly conveys goals that have remained consistent since KleinReid's inception: thoughtful design, fine craftsmanship and lasting beauty.
